John 5:30 “For I seek not to please myself but him who sent me”
Jesus is speaking declaring his Father’s Kingdom which is not to seek and serve his own desires and pleasures but rather those of His heavenly father.
In verse 19 he says “the son can do nothing by himself, he can only do what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does, the son also does.”
We know we are children of God when we do what the Father does, when we seek to please our heavenly Father, to do what he says even at the cost of our own desires, wishes, and plans.
If we are saved by faith, not through works, and yet without works our faith is dead, and so what do those works look like on a daily basis?
For each one of us it looks different day by day. It may mean courageous conversations that speak truth into situations when perhaps you would like to just walk away. It may mean getting out of bed when you want to stay in bed, it may mean putting on a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. It may mean self discipline in your exercise or health routines. It may be forgiving someone you perhaps don’t want to. It may be apologizing and seeking restoration of relationship. It may mean trusting in God’s provision when you can’t see it. Whatever it may look like for you today, tomorrow, it is a walking by faith to please my heavenly Father, not to please myself or my own desires.
If Christ is the Lord of my life, then I am led by His word, by His spirit, by His truth that leads to life and life abundantly and He has good things in store for us as we do this.
He has good plans for us to prosper, to be a blessing and to be blessed as we follow his leading and guiding in our day to day lives.
As we seek to serve and follow him, we are the ones blessed. We are the ones that gain even though at times it may seem like we have to surrender. Everything God does or asks us to do, is for our benefit and our blessing and for those around us. He is the Father of life and light and in Him is true peace and joy is found and so I encourage you today, and as Jesus shared, not to seek to please yourself, but rather your heavenly Father who loves you and has good plans for you.
Jesus is our great reward, and in him there is no other that is worth anything that lasts and so I gladly choose to follow and be led by Him and His Holy Spirit.
